In the summer and fall of 2011 the Greek Turkish Youth Orchestra (GTYO), composed of 45 young Greek and Turkish musicians and now in its fourth successful year, performed two major concerts in Greece and Turkey. The first on 11 August 2011, at Serefihisar Ancient Theatre, near Izmir, and the second on 14 September 2011, at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (Megaron).

The GTYO hosted the Turkish flutist Cem Oneturk alongside the orchestra at the Ancient Theater of Seferihisar, Izmir. In Thessaloniki the orchestra  performed in the frame of the “Dimitria” Festival, on its 46th edition with the Israeli flutist Roy Amotz.

The program consisted of:

Felix Mendelssohn:  “Hebrides Overture”, Op.26
W.A.Mozart: Concerto for flute and orchestra No.2 in D major, K.314
Ferit Tuzun: “Inspirations”
L. V. Beethoven: Symphony No.1 in C major, Op.21

The Turkish ambassador in Athens Mr Kerim Uras commended the activities of the orchestra with these words:

“A worthy cause and a very good project. Congratulations to all that take part”
